I recently had the honor and joy of capturing one of my favorite family sessions to date — and it’s extra special because it’s a true JTP Legacy session.
Let’s talk legacy for a moment. David and Stephanie were my very first JTP legacy couple. I photographed their engagement session back in February of 2020 and their wedding that July — right in the middle of the world shutting down. Florida went into lockdown between those two shoots, and for a while, we didn’t even know if their wedding would happen. Somehow, by the grace of God (and Stephanie’s incredible determination — she’s amazing!), it all came together beautifully.
Fast forward five years later, and these two now have the most adorable little girl, Jasmine. I’ve been wanting to photograph their family ever since she was born, but with my move to North Carolina, it wasn’t easy to make happen. Then it hit us — what if we met halfway? We decided to meet in Georgia, the same spot where I photographed their engagement session, for a full-circle moment.
We rented an Airbnb together and spent the holiday weekend catching up, laughing, and prepping for the session. The original plan was to photograph at Providence Canyon during golden hour, but we found out the day of that the park closes early now. (It wasn’t like that five years ago, so we didn’t even think to check!)
So, we adjusted. We went earlier in the afternoon — which meant harsh sunlight, Georgia heat, and the world’s most reflective red clay. Let’s just say it was… bright. 😂 And with the park closing three hours earlier than we expected, we had to move fast through the first few canyons. We didn’t even make it to the larger, deeper ones before time ran out.
But here’s the thing — you’d never know it from the photos. Despite the rush and the lighting challenges, the images turned out beautifully. And honestly, it reminded me that sometimes the imperfect moments lead to the most meaningful results.
As we drove out of the park, I spotted an open field with the most perfect light — soft, golden, dreamy. I asked if they were up for one more stop, even though baby Jasmine was running out of energy, and they said yes. It ended up being the best decision of the entire day. Those sunset field photos became my absolute favorites — relaxed, genuine, and filled with love.
I adore this family. Stephanie is not only one of my favorite clients, she’s one of my dearest friends. (Read as: best friend.) She’s modeled for me countless times and supported my business from the very beginning. Photographing her family now, five years later, felt like coming full circle.
We’re already planning the next shoot — and I have a feeling little Jasmine might just be the next star in front of my camera. 💕
