There are so many elements to a wedding that may be overwhelming, forgotten, or simply confusing to the first-time bride. Flat lay is one of these things. For the bride who is new to weddings, flat lay details may not be something at the top of the priority list, or something even thought of until the wedding day. They’re the tiny details that may otherwise go unseen, but are important the day-of. That’s why it’s so important to me as a photographer to include them in a wedding gallery, as the beginning of the story. Without photographs of your details, will you remember them ten years from now?
I’m going to go through what flat lay details are, and what you should bring and include on your wedding day.
Flat lay details are the wedding images you see of an arrangement of your invitation set, jewelry, flowers, etc. These things are ‘flat’ and usually photographed on a flat surface from above.
Other Details
The other details your wedding photographer will be capturing are your dress, veil, shoes, and bouquet. I love taking the dress out and hanging it somewhere pretty, usually outside, to capture it before my bride wears it to walk down the aisle.
Flowers
While I definitely use the bouquet for those detail shots, I also love to use extra floral stems to decorate my flat lay with. Florists are usually great about providing them when asked, so if you could ask your Florist to provide some extra stems for flat lay, your photographer will thank you for it.
