This styled editorial took place on the historical streets and beaches of St. Augustine. Our goal was to create beautiful inspirational images for the bride who wants to be non-traditional without sacrificing the romantic element of her portraits.
It stormed for three straight weeks before Tim & Mollie's engagement session in St. Augustine, but the rain did not stop this couple! We got wet and did some Notebook inspired photos that are some of my favorite to this day!
Flat Lay may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of the wedding day, but these little details are just as important. Each one was thought through and planned out, and executed with love. They are party of the wedding story, and deserve to be documented.
I’ve been working on something behind the scenes for a while now, and I’m so excited to finally share! Pro Prints is an incredible print shop, and I’ve worked with them to create these gorgeous styling mats for wedding and product photography.
I have hand painted each watercolor floral illustration, then had them printed on museum-quality canvas, using fade resistant archival inks and artist grade poly-cotton canvas, free of OBA’s. Each styling mat is of the finest quality, just like a canvas print you would order for your client’s homes and walls.
I’ve launched the first five designs, and am already working on the next designs. I’m excited about having watercolor florals as a backdrop to wedding details. This is truly unique and I havn’t seen it done elsewhere. The illustrations go great with stationery, but are also perfect for details like shoes, rings, etc.
The mats measure 20”x30”, which matches the 3:2 aspect ratio that a DSLR camera uses. This way photographers can style their flat lay and not worry about having to crop pieces out because the mat was bigger than the camera’s aspect ratio— something I’ve struggled with in the past with other styling mats. With these, whatever is styled fits in the frame!
Another aspect of the styling mats that I love is that they’re stain resistant. They can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, something I find incredibly useful when placing florals and shoes on them for wedding details.
They’re also rollable so they travel very easily! Because they’re canvas, they don’t stay curled tight either, and any ’folds’ that may occur in transport loosen right out once you lay them flat.
Each styling mat comes with an ivory canvas back, and while the back is not treated or printed on, it also serves as a great neutral backdrop for flat lay as well.
These styling mats are all available in my Etsy Shop, and as a special launch promotion I’ll be doing 20% off all five designs through Cyber Monday. The discount is automatic in the shop, so if you’re looking for a new backdrop to up your flat lay game, try giving my new styling mats a try.
